52 lists in 52 weeks // week 2: 10 Things I Learned in Greece

I went to Greece a year ago, and this is what I learned...

1. The food is delicious! You can eat as much as you want in a day, and not gain a single pound. It is so healthy and fresh and so good! Once I came back home..well food just isn't as good anymore over here.

2. Don't wear a skirt when you're going to a mountain. We went to this really cool place, but it was super windy that day, and I was wearing a skirt, so I had to sit at the bottom of the mountain while everyone else got to climb to the top and look over the land and everything. It sucked ):

3. Down town is creepy at night, especially the darker streets. My friends and I were walking down the streets and some man was standing in a dark ally asking if we wanted a drink. We were like "no thank you!" and started to run away. This other guy looked at us and was like "run faster, faster." Well about an hour later, a guy drove by on a moped and looked right at me all creepyish and was like "faster. faster." Yepp, same guy. Mad creepy.

4. The sun barely shines. Or at least it was that way when I went. The only day that was actually sunny was the very last day when we went on a cruise (thank god!) I actually got tan, I was so happy.

5. It's not so bad being without a phone for a week. The only communication I had to the outside world (back home) was a computer which I used for about 15 minutes each night. I actually enjoyed being away from my phone, the computer, facebook, etc. I only went on at night to message Max and my parents and let them know what I did that day.

6. Going home, after a week in a foreign country, makes you REALLY sleepy. I was SO out of it and SO tired, I literally slept till I was back home and landed Philly. I slept the 30 minute ride to the airport, the 2 hours sitting in the airport, the flight to Germany (however long that even was, idk), the 4 hour lay over in Germany, and the flight back home to America (probably 6 hours). And when I got home, I slept even more, until the next day. I got a lot of sleep, haha.

7. You shouldn't go away to another country, or any trip in general, when your boyfriend just broke up with you. I had no choice really, since the trip was paid for, and it was hard to just forget about things. I did my best though to forget what was going on back home, and try to enjoy myself. I really just kept to myself the whole trip. I wish I was more myself that weekend and got to know the other people on the trip better. They all became good friends, and I was just being a loner kind of. I wasn't in the mood to really talk to anybody or make friends. I was in my own little world, but I did enjoy myself and it made me forget about things, kind of. Well, not at all really, haha.

8. Greece is carefree. The whole down town was covered in graffiti, the people were so friendly, it was like a big party all the time. Everyone talked to each other and just had fun. Most people knew English and would talk to us as well. It was a cool atmosphere to be in.

9. School trips are not the way to travel. When I went to London, it was great! We were able to do anything we wanted, experience the city on our own, and just have a great time. In Greece, it was a lot more strict. I wanted to see the city, but all we did was listen to a tour guide for hours at a time talk about statues that I didn't care about. I wanted to see the CITY not some statue of some guy I don't know. I wanted to experience Greece and it's history, not listen to it. It was too strict for a trip and I wish we had more freedom.

10. Greece is beautiful. The old broken buildings, the ancient temples, the graffiti on the walls, everything about Greece was beautiful. It was broken and that made it beautiful.
